Writer-in-Residence
Sarah Corbett
Thank you Penny for hosting me as ‘Writer in Residence’ at your beautiful Shepherds Hut retreat space so that I could work on writing my new book!
Although I’m an award-winning author (not so humble brag!), it’s a daunting task to create this new book. I’m really proud of the three craftivism (craft + activism) books I’ve written and the work I’ve done through the Craftivist Collective that has directly led to real change in hearts, minds, policies and laws around the world. My goal with this new book is about helping readers learn how to weave gentleness into protests that don’t include crafts but where gentleness in other forms can serve the campaign and lead to effective social change without causing unnecessary division. It’s a topic close to my heart and I don’t want to mess it up.
It has been a gift to be able to work productively in the beautiful and quiet Shepherds Hut away from the distractions at home (London) and surrounded by nature to calm me down when I start getting overwhelmed.
The hut had everything I needed so that I could fully focus on writing. I’m going to miss being in such a beautiful quiet space, hearing the river flow past, the birds cheer me on and popping into the garden for fresh mint for my tea and salad leaves for my lunch!
Thank you Penny. I hope I can be back soon for longer!
Much appreciation
