The rugged bays, towering volcanic cliffs, and sweeping golden sands of the Marloes Peninsula make it a legendary muse for artists. Its dramatic geological contrasts and vibrant wildlife on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path are undeniably stunning. (National Trust 2026)

It is here that David and Cassia Gomersall have enjoyed discovering and exploring the rivers and streams on the South Shropshire, Powys border and have been inspired to make work.

David starts with drawing quick sketches of the continuous movement of water against the rocks. Returning to the studio, he develops these drawings using abstraction and his chosen materials of wood, stone, paint and dye.

Much of David’s making is a memory of water movement around, over and through rock. Whilst these pieces have evolved organically, they are, ultimately, complete with a strong echo of the starting place and a sense of familiarity.

Casia’s collection of rusty objects found on beaches and coastal spots have been used to create textural, rust-dyed cloth pieces, mimicking the sea spray and saltwater corrosion of metal.

The ink pieces are mostly abstract studies encapsulating sea meeting cliff and water meeting mountain. The overall focus is on weathering and erosion. As the sea erodes the rock and fades the colours of the land, so the blue ink pieces will, in sunlight, fade from the deeper blues to sandy browns and sepia tones.
